I am seeking information on William Frecentese, of the Third InfantryDivision. He was my great-uncle, and was awarded the Silver Star for bravery in action (World War II), having apparently been wounded. He was born in Italy in 1921 and lived in New York.
According to the "History of the Third Infantry Division in WWII" Private First Class William Frecentese was a member of the Medical Detachment of the 7th Infantry Regiment. He earned his Silver Star Medal October 1, 1944. At this time his regiment was in action near Ferdrupt, on the Moselle River. This was in the Vosges Mountains Campaign.
The medics had to face the fury of the enemy without any arms. They wore Red Cross armbands and had Red Crosses on white circles painted on their helmets, but this was no guarantee that they would be left alone. The men were universal in their admiration for the bravery of the medics.
I'd be grateful to anyone who could supply me with memories, personal recollections, or photos of him. He died in 1976 and is buried in Long Island National Cemetery.
Thanks.
Roberto Frecentese

I am trying to contact a man named Maurice D. Cohen who, I believe, may be a Seventh Infantry veteran of World War II. I think he may have known my brother, Pvt. Louis F. Curran, a Cotton Baler who was killed in action on Feb. 2, 1944 near Cisterna di Littoria, during Anzio-Nettuno fighting. If anyone reading this knows Mr. Cohen, or knew my brother, I would like to hear from you. Thanks. Jim Curran
